Happy spooky month! You might have heard that I’m officially a published author. Not in the way I expected but I’m published along with a bunch of other talented writers in a book of scary stories! I have two stories in Creaky Stairs: A Book of Dark Truths: Volume 1. You buy the book on Amazon here!
Thrilling tales of despair litter the countryside of Rustle County, where children have been disappearing for hundreds of years. This collection of terrifying short stories details the odious occurrences that have haunted Boltsville for generations. Follow Sheriff LeBuff and his affable deputy, Officer LeBlanc, as they try to piece together the dark mystery.
This book has 29 stories all woven together in the fictional town of Boltsville where creepy things happen all too frequently. Honestly, this book is captivating! The stories in it are different and entertaining. From the circus to the theater to summer camp, Rustle county rustles up quite a dramatic showing of scary mishaps. This book is appropriate for late middle schoolers and up, so it’s fun for (almost) all ages!

The book was released as an ebook on September 14 and it’s now available in paperback. It’s available on Amazon or you can purchase a copy from the Bucks County Writers Group by finding us at one of the events I’m listing below. Make sure to add it to your Goodreads shelf! The book is now listed under my book page on this blog. And I even have my own official Amazon author page where you can follow me.
I have two stories in the anthology and the first is actually the book’s prologue! “What to Do When the Lights Go Out” is a second person guide detailing what you should do when you lose electricity. And what not to do… Candles might have something to do with it.
The second story I have in the anthology is “Siren Record” which is about a deaf teenager who discovers a cursed 45 record in an antique store and gives it to his friend. What comes next is disastrous for all that can hear it.
I am proud of the stories I have in the book! They were a lot of fun to write even though I haven’t written horror stories before, I think they turned out pretty spooky. The editing process was expedited and there are still some things I would have liked to edit but overall, the book has a connectedness that I think makes it really unique and hard to put down!

Super congratulations for getting your work out there into the wider world! 😀 Hope publishing and promoting it all goes well.
I was thinking of trying Amazon Kindle out myself for publishing a future short story anthology – was there anything you found tricky in setting up yours through Amazon? What format did they want you to submit your story as?
Hayley E Frerichs says
Thank you! Our editor helped us get it up on Amazon but it wasn’t hard at all! A fellow author had the program Vellum that we used to format the book and made it look super professional. Hope that helps!
