This week I’ve been staying at home for my health and to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in my community. It important during this time to take care of yourself and your mental health. I’ve been focusing on creating– whether it’s creating content for the blog, writing my historical romance novel, taking pictures, or crafting. Creating is what gets me through when everything feels wrong.
It’s important to stay informed but I am trying to limit how much news I consume. Watching it gives me such anxiety, especially now when so many things are out of our control. And it’s sometimes easy to forget what is happening in the world when I’m cozied up at home reading, writing, crafting, journaling, blogging, or another one of the million creative hobbies I love.
But not everyone can adapt so easily to be trapped at home for weeks on end. Especially when it’s not by choice. I’m sharing my favorite items for being at home since social distancing is on the top of everyone’s mind. I hope these items give you some inspiration to practice a little self-care.

It’s official: I am an introvert. I love to be at home and feel most myself when I’ve had time alone to refocus and accomplish some chores and do things for myself like crafting or reading. You can always be sure that I’ll be taking the extra time to jot ideas down in my journal!
Staying-in is my happy place but having a routine is vital for my mental health and my production level. Top of the list for my sustainable starter pack is my silent wooden alarm clock. I love their mission to have a mindful phone-free morning, waking up by an actual alarm clock and not scrolling social media in bed. I’ve been reading Lucy Wolsely’s Jane Austen at Home which is a biography of my favorite author. Whenever I need a bit of comfort I reach for my favorite books. I also wear an over-sized sweater for all the perfect cozy reading!
Another part of my morning (and the rest of my day) is to journal my task list. It keeps me focused and keeps my thought organized. My mind often feels like it’s running on a treadmill, just going and going, and writing it down on paper helps me sort through it all. And of course, I’ll be drinking warm drinks with my favorite Jane Austen mug.
