I love fresh starts. But the start of a new year can be toxic. The rush to get fit and achieve every resolution you’ve set for yourself with the first WEEK of the new year is exhausting and frankly terrible for your mental health. This year, I’m taking things slower and not getting too down on myself for not doing things “on time.” As in, this blog post is posted like a month later than it’s supposed to be… But deep breaths, it’s okay.
Inscription
I was inspired by the Plant Based Bride on Youtube to write my own inscription on the inside cover of my bullet journal. Jane Austen is my favorite author and I want this year to focus on being an author. Every time I open my notebook, I can see this reassuring inscription every time.
This particular Jane Austen quote speaks to me and reminds me every time I open my journal my intention for the year. ROMANCE. As in, finish writing my historical romance novel. It also reassures me that, yes, it is okay to love and write and read funny, unserious stories and that you should be yourself.
It just *sigh* makes me happy. And that’s the point of bullet journals: completely personal spaces to record what you love and to embrace creativity.
Cover Page
Hello 2020 and this super simple page is what I came up with for my cover page, with the reminder to dream big.
Key and Year at a Glance
As a treat to myself this year, I purchased a handful of Tombow brush pens to add color to my journal. They don’t bleed through the page and are fast to use (unlike painting with watercolor). On Amazon, they have great color-coordinated collections. This* landscape one is my favorite. You can see just how vibrant they are for yourself:
A closer look at my key. I love the pop of color and floral designs to draw the eye around the page.
Date Book
In the past, I definitely got a “datebook” and “future log” confused. A datebook is where you keep track of important dates, ie. birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and events. Which is what I am going to do here. Under every calendar, I’ll list the day and then write the important celebration beside it.
Future Log
The future log is where you keep track of monthly goals and/or tasks. Just like the creator of the bullet journal method, Ryder Carroll, intended. Where from month to month you migrate all unfinished tasks into a list for the month.
Examples of what I will list in my future log: replace contact lenses– Mon 3, Wash bedsheets– Wed 8. Again, monthly tasks and/or goals for the month. My future log was inspired by Shayda Campbell’s on Youtube. (Clearly, I went down a huge Youtube rabbit hole one December day…)
Goals and Resolutions
This spread is almost exact to my old goals page in my 2019 bullet journal. It’s just functional and pretty.
My resolutions this year are broad which is okay.
I’m still missing two goals but I hope I can finish one of these goals and then think of another one. Honestly, thinking too far ahead can leave me feeling pretty anxious so the thing about my goals (and resolutions) this year are they have to be manageable.
And that’s it! I’m really excited about my bullet journal this year and feel way more confident in keeping up with it after learning how to do journal last year. Go here for my ultimate list of bujo supplies and a review of my bullet journal from Archer and Olive. Happy New Year, dear readers!
Happy Day-
