I have successfully combined my nerdy side with a simple bullet journal spread. I’m so excited to share my Harry Potter doodles for you this month. September always reminds me of school; although I’m no longer in school, it’s fun to imagine going to the ultimate school: Hogwarts. I mean don’t we all feel a bit betrayed that we never got a letter at age 11? Maybe not but the Harry Potter books (and movies) and some of my favorites.
Cover page
Hello, Harry! Okay, so my journal is far from Tom Riddle’s diary, thank goodness. I even have a Marauder’s Map handkerchief that I found at my local thrift store. Seriously, I found it a basket of hankies and had to get it. I’m glad it could get some use for my pictures!
I always put a quote on the left side of my cover page. This month’s reads, “Working hard is important but there is something that matters even more; believing in yourself.” This quote is very apt for my life at the moment. And it’s so true! I’m working on getting my fantasy novel published and I have to believe in myself first and foremost.
Okay, can we take a moment to talk about my HOMEMADE wand?! Seriously, I made it! With a dowel rod, beads, hot glue, and paint, I created this wand a couple of years ago for a Harry Potter New Year’s Eve party my roommate and I hosted. (You should know by now that I’m a nerd.) I had wands for every guest! My roommate cut all the wands to size and filed the ends with a file before sanding them into a perfect rounded point.
I just adore the way my wand turned out. It’s so unique and definitely my style with the wave-like dripping and the silver accent wrapping around. My wand is holly wood with dragon heartstring in case you were wondering. I think I’ve got to make a tutorial on how to make one of your own one of these days.
Dutch Door
In my bujo for the second half of 2019, I’ve been creating a Dutch door on my cover page. It acts as a natural bookmark for the month and helps establish the theme. A minimalist Hogwarts crest steals the show for September.
In past months (see August’s spread here and July’s spread here), I’ve not properly utilized (or properly shared) what goes under the Dutch door. But this month I’ve got three things: three goals taken from my bujo’s setup pages, some achievable tasks to complete those goals, followed by a list of important dates to keep in mind. These dates are all copied from my future log that’s at the beginning of this bullet journal. Of course, there are more dates than just the Labor Day holiday but those are a bit more private.
And you better believe that I’m going to have draft 4 of my book finished by the end of the month! I really want to get it published by the end of the year! Working hard is important, but I believe I can do it! 😉
Monthly Calendar
My monthly bujo spread was inspired by quidditch! I took a lot of the little doodle design ideas from Pinterest, mixing and matching and coming up with my own overall design.
Nothing says quidditch like the iconic three hoops and a broomstick.
I decided to keep the spread black and white with just the gray brush pen highlighting the dates on the calendar. It would be fun with color too! Feel free to copy this spread and color away. I just felt the simple monochromatic scheme worked and didn’t feel like it needed color. (And it took less time.)
Gratitude Journal and Monthly Review
I had a hard time coming up with the idea for these pages! But I’m glad I didn’t rush into anything because it might just be my favorite spread of the whole month. It’s definitely simple but I love the timeless nature of stationary: books, quill, ink, letter, and parchment.
You might have seen above that one of my goals is to read five books this month so I left five lines to fill out what books I read. And I just love that it’s on an actual book!
Weekly Spread
My weekly spread has not changed for the past couple of months. It’s ideal to keep track of my daily tasks and to-do list. I love the flexibility of open space. If I’m traveling, I’ll journal my day in the space instead of writing a list.
Oh, Hogwarts at night. What a dream it would be to see in real life. But I guess a mini sketch in my bullet journal will have to do haha.
I loved creating this month’s theme. It was fun to break out all my Harry Potter memorabilia too. And/or stare at my Harry Potter books longingly… I hope you enjoyed this! What is something you are nerdy about? Let me know in the comments and we can fangirl together.
Happy Day-

SO CUTE! I love the Hogwarts in the diamond on your weekly view! I really want to have my habits on my actual weekly pages like you did. I did that once upon a time then switched it up … bad decision.

THANK YOU! I’m really happy with the way it turned out and it just makes me want to go to Hogwarts even more haha. I tried to do habits by month one time and it was a bad decision lol I never actually tracked anything. You just have to find what works for you 🙂
