Quarantine has continued to allow me more time to create and this month’s bullet journal spread really embraces all the whimsy of making art at home! It’s messy and full of florals, of course. This month is unique (as is the time we’re living in) since I don’t even have a calendar page! Instead, I have a stay-at-home hobbies dial calendar with lots of activities to do this month.
Cover Page
I mean have I said how much I LOVE my dot grid journal from Archer and Olive?! After testing acrylic paint last month, I tried watercolor this month. And it really holds up on these crispy white pages. My cover page is inspired by a summery European door. Who says staying in can’t be cute?
I have the color swatch that I used for this page here on the right. It’s a bit light but I think the colors scream of spring!
I don’t expect I’ll need to keep much of a schedule this month so I have a very basic (and small) calendar where I can keep track of holidays and birthdays. There is some room for notes too.
Dial Calendar
I was inspired by Shayda Campell’s video where she did a dial calendar for stay at home May. I did something similar but with watercolor. I decided against outlining the flowers on this page because I actually took my time for these and I think they turned out rather nice.
I created a new color swatch for these pages. The colors are just a lot more vibrant! I used a lot more pigment and premade all my colors in a tray before painting them on the page. This way the colors are consistent across the rest of the pages.
I have quite a few projects that I want to tackle in the month of May. I expect I’ll still be social distancing. What activities have you been loving during this time?
Weekly Layout
The weekly spread is where it gets fun… and messy! Everything is definitely perfectly imperfect. The spread was relatively easy and fast to make! I actually didn’t use a ruler for any of the spreads this month! It adds to the whimsy 😉
I used my “fancy” watercolor brush for this project: my Winsor & Newton University series brush* which I bought when I was… in uni! It’s versatile while also inexpensive! I plan on buying more in the future from this brand.
I think the little swatches of color make cute little bookmarks!
Here’s a close-up of week 22:
The only thing I didn’t utilize this month are habit trackers! Hmm, maybe I’ll end up adding a page if I want to track my habits this month.
I am so ready for spring! Can you tell, lol. Now if it’ll just stop raining, I can enjoy the outside too. I’m feeling so cooped up with all this rain and not being allowed to go out. But I am so grateful that I can stay at home and have the support of my family. How are you celebrating the coming of spring?
Happy Day-
