This is my favorite spread of the year so far! (Humble much, Hayley?) Quarantine has made me do nothing but create and create (and avoid writing). Yes, if I do lots of other crafts I feel less guilty that I haven’t written since Pennsylvania has been on lockdown. I’m hoping to change that this month with a detailed habit tracker and a soothing spread full of spring colors.
Cover Page
Because I have more time on my hands, I painted an acrylic scene for my cover page. (See above aka avoiding writing by doing lots of arts and crafts haha.) It’s inspired by vintage fabric with a bluebird and white blossoms on a branch. I really love how the bird, in particular, came out.
What I love the most about painting with paint is how stunning the colors are! Acrylic just pops (literally and figuratively) off the page. You can really see how much of a difference paint compared to brush pens.
I’ll be home, social distancing, for the foreseeable future. I’ve created a detailed habit tracker for the month as my ‘focus’. It’s an idea I got from Twitter and I really love how versatile it is. I also have an area to track 30-minute writing sprints, where I write for 30-minutes and then fill a square when I do. Hopefully building up multiple 30-minute increments per day.
I’ve already started getting into the habit 😉 of tracking a couple of things for the last week of March. As you can see, I’ve really been struggling with writing.
My painting scene draws from realism and impressionism that fits with 19th-century fabric.
Monthly Calendar
This is my favorite page of the month! Which is hard to believe since the calendar page is hardly ever my favorite spread. But I love the balance of the bluebird in one corner and the branch with blossoms in the other corner.
I think it really balances my style: vintage and minimalism.
I was worried about how the bluebird would turn out by coloring it solely with a brush pen but adding layers help define it as well as outlining it with a pen before coloring it.
I actually used a 02 Pigma Micron pen for all the drawings; a smaller line makes the drawings look crisper.
Weekly Layout
With my detailed habit tracker, my weekly layout is very basic this month. I don’t expect I’ll need to use the monthly calendar to manage my schedule and appointments either.
The blossoms are quite easy to make with messy imperfect petals.
I wasn’t sure what else to add in the top corner here of my weekly spread. I’ll probably write some notes and ideas in there, maybe a summary of the week.
I love how I’ve been able to spend more time journaling and my designs this month really reflect that. I’m also tempted to look-up vintage fabric to inspire the rest of my bullet journal this year! It’s exactly my vibe! Along with simple, minimalist spreads, I love the floral patterns and the demured color schemes of vintage fabric. How do you find inspiration for your journal?
